On behalf of our 7 Panhellenic chapters, welcome to the Inter-Sorority Council (ISC), our Panhellenic organization here at Stanford! My name is Adithi Iyer, and I am the 2019-2020 Inter-Sorority Council President. Sorority women here at Stanford are one-of-a-kind—driven, motivated, and exceptional all around. I’m thrilled to have you here to explore our organizations’ work and unique communities. Our sisterhood echoes the principles of academic and extracurricular excellence, passion for service, and value-driven relationships. Personally, I’m honored to be able to represent this community. I grew up in a traditional Indian family with a sense of my culture and heritage that I am immensely proud of and empowered by. As a woman of color, I initially felt hesitant to enter the Greek system, here at Stanford or anywhere else, as I was worried that my identity and experiences may not fit. But to my pleasant surprise, I found my stride within Greek life when I took a chance and joined my chapter. In my organization, I have created lifelong friends who have uplifted and inspired me. I have been able to be an agent of positive change as a mentor, a leader, and most importantly as a sister. As ISC President, I endeavor to represent the breadth of experiences, backgrounds, and interests that make up our entire Panhellenic community by leading our executive board. |
Our goals reflect our values: we hope to create meaningful dialogue, opportunities for authentic connections, and hands-on contributions through service for the Stanford community while serving as advocates for women’s communities across campus.
We are committed to growing a community of connected and empowered women who encourage each other across chapters and make each other stronger. You have come to us at an exciting time; our culture is ripe for change across the country and women are finding places of power and visibility more than ever before. As responsible leaders, we acknowledge that as amazing as our community aspires to be, there are still systemic and historical forces of discrimination and exclusion associated with Greek life. Our belief is that we can challenge these institutions, in partnership with our chapters and other stakeholders, by working towards our shared vision of building strong, diverse communities of and for women.
We hope you will join us is in supporting this mission and our journey in creating a more diverse, dynamic and empowered future for us all. What a time to be a woman, here at Stanford and beyond!
