The Greek Community at Stanford offers endless opportunities for your loved one. By joining a sorority, they are joining hundreds of other new members in their search for a sense of community here at Stanford.
At Stanford, sorority members demonstrate commitment to academics, give back by volunteering in the community, develop and strengthen leadership skills, and form genuine connections.

Recruitment Information for Parents
Formal recruitment, sometimes called "rush," is a mutual selection process where your student will meet all six Panhellenic sororities and find the organization that's right for them. Please see the Sorority Recruitment page of the ISC website for more information regarding Recruitment.
What is my role as a parent?
- Encourage your student to attend organizational fairs and scope out the multitude of student groups and opportunities available to Stanford students. That way, they can make an informed decision about whether or not to join a Greek organization.
- Students need support throughout the process of recruitment and new member education. Remember that being a young adult can be fraught with anxiety, new social settings, pressure from others, and the additional stressors of the virtual environment.
- Keep an open mind! Greek life is not for everyone. Just because you may have been a fraternity or sorority member doesn't mean that it is the right choice for your student.
- Sororities are different on every campus. Let your student choose the group that they feel the most comfortable joining.
- Talk to your student beforehand about the financial obligation. Determine who will pay for what and where the limits are.
